The incident happened Friday night, Feb. 28, just after 9 p.m. at the Conantville Road and Overlook Drive intersection in Mansfield.
One of the injured was air-lifted to a Rhode Island burn ward for second-degree burns while the other was rushed to an area hospital. Their injuries were considered life-threatening, police said.
The truck they were in was carrying multiple 20-pound propane tanks used for grills, authorities said. Investigators believe several exploded, but it's unclear what sparked the first.
Police believe the injured had been living in the truck, according to NBC Connecticut.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
